Aveeno Brand Overview: Cleansers, Serum and Body Cream

I've been using Aveeno products for almost five months now, here's my two cents:

Aveeno markets itself as an organic environmentally-savvy brand with its cream + green coloured packaging. Few people may know that it's actually owned by Johnson & Johnson, a huge cosmetics conglomerate that isn't exactly known for it's organic consciousness. Still, hats off to Aveeno for having paraben-free products, at least all the ones I own are.

Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser
200 ml $5.99 (US only)

I bought this after Ingrid, or missglamorazzi, raved about it a few months ago. She has oily sensitive skin so if it worked for her, I knew that in the very least it wouldn't harm me. It's also super affordable so I decided to give it a go!

Here's what it says on the packaging:

With moisture-rich soy extract. Helps even out skin tone and texture. Oil-free soap-free hypoallergenic, noncomodogenic.

This cleanser lifts away dirt, oil and makeup without over-drying for naturally radiant skin.

Pros: First ingredient on its list is water, pretty gold duo chrome consistency, affordable.

Cons: Smells a bit like lemon washing up liquid, has Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) which left my face feeling tight and dry.

Bottomline: This cleanser is basically a quick fix. I would happily use it if I slept over at a friends' place and wanted a simple run of the mill cleanser that would sort me out for an evening/day. As a long term staple in my skincare routine? No sirree!! This is way too drying on my skin for regular daily use, it also didn't make me feel like my face was 100% clean. I would much rather use a cleanser that not only properly cleansed, but also had plenty of nutrients for my skin.

Positively Radiant Daily Exfoliating Cleanser
150ml £5.99

I picked this up four months ago as I couldn't find the previous cleanser in Boots and was determined to go home Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser in hand, so this had to suffice! Again, it didn't break the bank so I was happy to risk it (that's partially what this blog is for, testing out new products for my insatiable product obsession!).

Pros: Gave a good deep clean a couple of times when skin has been pre-cleansed and pores opened from a steamy shower, affordable.

Cons: Can be really abrasive on my cheeks and give me a mild temporary rash, when used over the sink without a shower it doesn't do much really, it also has SLS so it left my skin dry and tight (albeit less so than the previous cleanser, probably because this has been manufactured in the EU where ingredients laws are stricter).

Bottomline: To be frank this is such a confusing cleanser. Sometimes I'd use it and think wow this isn't too bad, and others it would do absolutely zilch and make me regret picking it up. I do not recommend this.

Positively Radiant Triple Boost Serum
30 ml £11.99

Here's what it says on the packaging:

Boosts skin's radiance by evening out skin tone and texture, visibly diminishing the appearance of brown spots and hydrating the skin.

I like to use this serum before bed as it gives just the right amount of moisture!
My other half said it smells good which is always a plus. It comes in a lightweight plastic bottle which is awesome for travelling and one pump dispenses just the right amount for the entire face!

Pros: Lightweight, dries quickly (non greasy), smells great, makes my skin super soft!

Cons: none.

Bottomline: If you're looking for an affordable creamy serum that is non greasy and very moisturising, look no further!

Almond Moisturising Creamy Oil
300ml £4.77

If you have been reading my blogposts for a while now then you'll know I much prefer body oil to body lotion, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this!

It apparently makes me smell "like cake" and is such a perfect cream-oil hybrid for when I want something a tad more moisturising than my body oil. If you hate greasy body lotions then stay away! This is part-oil so it's definitely on the greasy side. I would absolutely love it if Aveeno made a version of this with SPF in it!

Pros: Price, sweet almond scent, very moisturising, long lasting moisture.

Cons: none!

Bottomline: I highly rate this! My bottle's almost out but of course I have a backup sitting in my drawer!

Xx

  1. Aveeno's Moisturising Creamy Oil is one of my all-time favourite body moisturisers! The smell is divine ( just like almond milk). I also highly rate Aveeno's Daily moisturising lotion with lavender aroma.
