August 2013 Hair & Body Empties

Sally Hansen Strengthening Polish Remover For Soft, Thin Nails

This nail polish remover was nothing special. In fact, it was subpar. Why you ask? Because it's aimed at thin, brittle nails (which is what mine were before I started using OPI's Nail Envy) and it didn't help the situation at all. My nails kept on peeling and not growing anylonger. What's more is that I discovered this has parabens only after I was finished with it! :O I'm definitely staying away from this in future.

Radox Shower Smoothies Soul Soother

I love this shower gel (or shower smoothie rather)! It's creamy, moisturising, smells heavenly and has bits of real fruit in it! I'm definitely repurchasing this baby.

Essie's Lolipop

If you read my recent blogpost on red nailpolishes from Essie, you'll know why I'm getting rid of this baby. In case you didn't, HERE's a link.

Marc Jacobs Roll On Perfume

I've had this gorgeous scent for quite a few years now, I'm scared to think for how long! I really do love it and would repurchase it in full size in a heartbeat. Why am I getting rid of it when there's a bit left you ask? With time, as I rolled it on my skin that already had lotion or oil on it, that little ball rolls back into the fragrance coated in whatever body product I had on. With time, more and more of the body lotion or body oil that I had on my skin mixes in with the fragrance and this is what ends up happening - a cloudy funky smelling liquid in the rollerball. No bueno. For this reason I will be staying away from rollerballs in future.

Figs & Rouge Balm in Rambling Rose
I was so excited to try this 100% organic lips face and body balm and was over the moon when I received it in a Glossybox last year. While I love that it's super natural, it really didn't work for me. The texture was too weird/thick on my lips and I wasn't very fond of it as a body moisturiser either. Let me know if you have a specific use for this balm as I haven't figured out a use for it! After having it open for almost a year the texture has gone hard and funky - it's time to part ways with it.

I <3 Perfume Malibu Beach Solid Perfume
This paraben free solid perfume smells GORGEOUS! I received it as a gift a few years ago and only now has it gone funky. I'm very impressed with how long it's lasted without parabens! I wish I used it up while it was still good!! It smells very fun and girly with a bit of spice to it. If I see the I <3 Perfume brand anywhere in future I will most certainly be trying more out, or repurchasing this beaut!

Nivea Firming Body Oil Q10 Plus

I was super addicted to this body oil last summer and stocked up big time. Thankfully this is the last bottle I had of it and it has certainly lost its appeal in my opinion. It smells rather plastic-y and horrible which is the major turn off for me. The funky smell developed over time I imagine. I'm really curious about the Nivea spray on body moisturiser that's just come out, I wonder if it's paraben free. I'd love to give it a try if it is.

Nivea Sun Pocket Size SPF 30

I used this religiously all last summer as well as a whole bottle at Glastonbury this year. It had great texture, kept me from burning and comes in a conveniently sized bottle BUT, again, I only discovered it had 1 paraben in its ingredients after I finished using it! I have a pretty much full bottle left and I think I'll get rid of that one too. Why must parabens be everywhere? Shame on you Nivea, shame on you!

The bottle I had last year wasn't completely empty, but when I brought it out at the beginning of summer and started using it I found the texture to me more grainy than smooth (which was really gross) so this definitely expires in a year, just FYI.

Secret Sheer Solid Sheer Mineral Delicate Bloom Antiperspirant

The Secret Antiperspirant line is the only deodorant that works for me on this planet. Well, the only one that eliminates body odour 100%! Maybe it's because I've used it religiously for the past 6-8 years of my life and now my body's dependant on it, who knows?

I've tried several other brands and types ever since this baby ran out but I am struggling without it. When will Secret be available in the UK??!!

Dove Invisible Dry 48h Antiperspirant

This is one of the deodorants I tried after running out of my precious Secret. Let me tell you, this did not work on me AT ALL. It was absolute rubbish. Thankfully it cost no more than £2 so it wasn't a big heartache to be throwing it away. Don't waste your time on this one.

Naked Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner

You can read my thoughts on these babies HERE. In a nutshell, I'm throwing them away before I'm completely finished with the bottles because I much prefer my other shampoos/conditioners. Why force myself to finish something that doesn't give me the results I want?

The shampoo is a bit too clarifying and I ended up having to mix it with a more moisturising one, otherwise my hair would feel like seaweed when I washed it with this alone. As for the conditioner, it really didn't make a difference with my hair's, ahem, 'condition'. I really appreciate that these products are 97% natural but unfortunately they do not work nearly as well as their chemical-filled counterparts.

Aussie Dual Personality Conditioning Gel Spray

I got this product free in a 3 for 2 deal that Boots had going on and was so excited to try it out! Soft beachy waves sounded too good to be true and guess what, they were. This Conditioning Gel Spray did not give me flexible hold as was advertised on the bottle. And their slogan, "Your hair stays soft and swingy, not stiff and clingy" was the furthest thing from the truth. This spray gave me hard, crunchy curls and didn't smell too good either. I only used it 2 or 3 times and am having to get rid of it because it was so awful.

Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother

This teeny weeny sample size might've been too small to truly judge this Style Prep Smoother, but I don't remember it making much difference to my hair. It did smooth it a significant bit, but not enough for me to repurchase it.

Mark Hill Holiday Hair Sun, Sea, Frizz-Free Anti Humidity Spray

Another hair product disappointment, this spray takes the cake for worst performance and delivery on its promises! Their slogan is " Kiss frizz goodbye and hold onto smooth shiny hair". Filled with high expectations, I took this too good to be true spray with me to Glastonbury. It didn't calm my frizz and it didn't give me much shine, nor did it hold out against the humidity. I really wish that I had taken a backup spray with me and not depended on this rubbish product. Wisdom through hindsight huh? Honestly, stay away from this. It does not deliver on any of its promises and I am throwing it away after only one week of use.

Dove Colour Radiance Express Treatment Conditioner

On a more positive note, this is a superb hair conditioner! I am in love with Dove's conditioners, all the ones I have tried left my hair silky and smooth. They are SO affordable and deliver every time. I am always sure to have a Dove conditioner in my stash! I highly recommend this!

VO5 Ultimate Hold Weather Resistant Hairspray

Ending on a high note, this hair spray is the BOMB! I purchased a replacement before this one finished and I absolutely love it. It is my favourite hair spray of all time. When they said that it gives flexible hold that brushes out easily, they weren't lying! It's not sticky, protects against humidity and gives noticeable shine. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this hairspray and will always be sure to have it in my stash.

Xx
